The U is back baby! Mark Richt is in Miami and he’s bringing them back to their glory days. The Hurricanes are currently the 13th ranked team in the country, and they look as dangerous as Ray Rice in an elevator. When the schedules were released a lot of people were sceptical about Miami. Miami was a good team and there wasn’t much more to it. They were the team that could pull off an upset every now and then and ruin some powerhouse’s season. Now they’re a team with actual postseason hopes. I’m not talking about some crappy bowl game in the middle of December on a Tuesday night in North Dakota. I’m talking about a birth in the playoff. But Clemson is in the ACC! The Falcons were up 28-3. Nothing is set in stone is what I mean. Just let me explain a little for you.
The Miami Hurricanes are in the ACC Coastal division. What does this mean? I’m glad you didn’t ask. The ACC is split into two divisions: the Atlantic and Coastal. The Atlantic has Clemson, FSU, Louisville and NC State that headline it. The Coastal has Miami, VA Tech and Georgia Tech which normally lead it. This means a few things. First it means that Miami doesn’t have to play Clemson, Louisville and FSU all in one season. This is great for them, because it’s a better chance to go undefeated. It also gives them a much better chance to get to the ACC Championship. Their chances to make the ACC Championship is looking pretty good at the moment. They’re 4-0 and only climbing in the ranks. They play Georgia Tech on Oct. 14 and Virginia Tech on Nov. 4. Both are pivotal matchups as one of these three teams will end up playing Clemson to see who punches their ticket to the ACC Championship. Miami will be favored in both games and they’re in Miami. Both are huge upsides for them. They also face Notre Dame in what is sure to be a great matchup. It’s also in Miami. I’m not saying Miami is better than Clemson because they aren’t. Well they aren’t right now. They grinded out a win against FSU. Some will say that because Miami struggled against them then Clemson will roll right past them. But if you believe that then you probably also wear a helmet to sleep. Last season Clemson beat Troy by a whopping 6 points. They beat Ohio State by 31. So Troy would’ve beaten Ohio State last season right? Not a chance. That sounds stupid right? That’s because it is. The sad thing is people acutally believe in that logic. Anyways, let’s get back to the main topic at hand. Miami is rolling right now. They don’t have the biggest names but they have the talent. Don’t forget Mark Richt is their coach. He’s already changing that program. Don’t get me wrong. Miami still has a lot of questions. They were locked in with Florida State and that raises some questions. But so was Bama with Texas A&M, and I promise you nobody is worried about them. But I know it’s Alabama. They’re in their own league. Miami will have a lot of tests in the next few weeks. But if they can grind out a few more wins then Clemson might have their hands full. And who knows what can happen? Clemson is notorious for slow starting games. They just tend to do them against teams that don’t have the ability to hurt them for it. Miami has the potential to do just that. Here’s a fun fact for you. The last time Florida State lost to Miami when they weren’t ranked the Hurricanes won the national championship. Just some food for thought. I don’t know if Miami can keep up this run. But it sure would be fun to see them and Clemson each undefeated in the ACC Championship.
