Washington State Crapped Their Pants

For the record I want everyone to know I said Falk COULD win the Heisman.  I never said he WOULD.  But then he threw 5 interceptions and no touchdowns against Cal.  So maybe not so much.  Washington State had just broken into the top ten rankings just chasing the Washington Huskies.  Luckily WU played bad too so it basically negates it if you think about it.  Basically the matrix all over again.  Washington State is going to drop pretty far down after this.  He’s gonna have to go basically the entire rest of the season without a pick to get back into contention.  I don’t think that’s too realistic.  I’m not saying he’s gotta be perfect but he really does need to be to have any real chance.  But there’s a few running backs not named Saquon Barkley that are looking really nice right now.  Bryce Love at Stanford, Rashad Penny from SDSU and Dicomey Saint Juste from Hawaii all continued their Heisman hopes Saturday night.  Rashad Penny played like he was worth a penny as Boise State ate his breakfast, lunch and dinner all game.  He went for 21 carries on 53 rushing yards and 1 score.  Although the game was well out of reach when he scored I won’t despair padding stats.  Gotta get them when you can.  However, Barkley is still the favorite no doubt but his margin just got a little bit slimmer.  Of course Falk won’t be in that race discussion for a little while.  He’s gonna have to do a lot to get back on par.

First off the Cougars can’t lose anymore.  They are going to move well outside of the top ten.  I think they’ll move between 13th-16th in the nation.  Stanford, Utah and Washington highlight a remaining schedule that is by no means a breeze.  The only breeze will be the one that was in the air when he threw all those picks.  He threw an interception basically every 9 throws.  But have no fear.  If the NCAA listens to Mike Leach (which they should) then we will end up seeing them in the playoff.  But the NCAA is equivalent to the Third Reich so we aren’t going to.  At least this season we won’t.  Washington State still has a chance to win the Pac-12 due to Washington losing to Arizona State.  But they’re going to have to play lights out for this to happen.

The second and most important is Falk will have to be spectacular from here on out. Remember when RGIII won the Heisman? Baylor went 9-3 that season and played in the Alamo Bowl.  Remember it?  Anyways the point is one loss doesn’t ruin a campaign.  It just hurts.  Lamar lost a few at the end of last season but it helped that there wasn’t much competition last season.  But in Falk’s case there’s a few guys ready in case someone screws the pooch. Falk is still fifth in the nation is passing yards and Washington State is third in total passing offense so that’s nice.  But that’s going to need to get better.  That and his touchdowns will have to increase.  He threw a nice cool zero against Cal which isn’t good.  But maybe that could change.  They play Colorado next which should help him get back on track.  But he might just do the same thing again.  If I were Mike Leach I would just ask one of his wives to maybe coax him into the right direction.

Falk is not gonna be in the Heisman discussion for a while.  He’s gonna need to get a few games to get back on track first.  But I can promise you this.  If Washington State loses a couple more games then Falk isn’t going to find himself in New York City.  There are too many guys in line in waiting for someone to unravel.  Luckily for them Falk already started.
