Watch Out For the Wisconsin BADgers

I’m feeling pretty good right now about my preseason pick for the Big 10.  I’m probably going to end up wrong but I’ve been enjoying the past ten weeks like they won’t end.  Hopefully they won’t.  They might though.  Wisconsin is currently 9-0 and ranked inside the top ten in the nation.  They remain one of a few unbeaten teams left in the NCAA.  There’s just one problem with that.  They haven’t played anybody and I mean anybody.  But they are still undefeated.  And in the world of college football unbeaten is always good.  The Big 10 is split into two divisions so I’ll clear everything up for anyone in the dark here.

The Big 10 is the most overrated college football conference there is.  No matter how bad they are people find excuses for them and continue to rank them highly.  I don’t care that Ohio State won the first playoff.  THEY DIDN’T DESERVE TO BE THERE.  TCU got screwed out of that.  But that’s for another day.  Right now the Big 10 has one team alone in the top ten rankings.  Wisconsin sits at eighth in the nation.  Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State are all outside of the top ten.  Michigan State plays Ohio State this week and if they win then the Big 10 championship will almost be set.  See the great thing for Wisconsin is they are in the Big 10 West division.  Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan are all in the Big 10 East.  What does all this useless information mean?  It means Wisconsin won’t have to play the competition other Big 10 schools do.  It could be all the cheese but Wisconsin seems to have figured it out.  Win a bunch of games and get ranked super high.  Then they lose in the Big 10 Championship to whoever they play and any chance at their postseason hopes.  Wisconsin doesn’t change and we love that.  Maybe their fans don’t but we do.  Maybe if they were honey badgers instead of regular badgers they might win some more games.

Wisconsin doesn’t really have any tough games ahead.  Iowa is never easy so watch out Badgers.  But this is going to help them more than it will hinder them.  Ohio State and Michigan State go at it this weekend.  Oklahoma plays TCU.  Miami plays Notre Dame.  Georgia plays Auburn.  There is a ton of action going on this weekend in the top 25.  If Wisconsin can get some help from other teams losing they might be able to jump enough spots.  Right now they control their own destiny.  But knowing them it won’t be that way for too long.  I hope they do though.  I’d love for them to win.  It’s mainly due to my hatred for the Big 10.  But here’s another thought nobody it considering.

Is the Big 10 even going to have anybody in the playoff?  Think about it for a second.  Georgia and Bama have almost locked their spots.  Clemson or Miami will go in depending on how the ACC Championship goes.  Notre Dame might find a way in.  Oklahoma still has life.  Even Washington over in the Pac 12 has a chance to get it.  College football is chaos right now.  And I think I have the answer to the majority of their problems.  I will keep saying this until it becomes true.  If LaVar Ball can do that why shouldn’t I?  The playoff needs to expand to at least eight teams.  That’s a minimum of eight.  I think ten teams with two getting a bye would be great.  Maybe even 12.  As long as it isn’t the top four everyone will be much happier.  A four team playoff is pretty stupid.  It’s light years ahead of the old system but that isn’t saying anything at all.  Stevie Wonder could’ve done better by picking teams from a fishbowl.  The main point is Wisconsin has distinctively good chances on winning the Big 10 right now.  But that might not be enough.   Wisconsin has done their part thus far.  If they can handle their business for the next few weeks they could be looking at an undefeated record with a Big 10 title.  Could they be the first team to go undefeated in the CFP era in a Power 5 conference that didn’t make the top four spots?  Or will they succumb to the ways of the Big 10 and find a way no matter what. We’ll find out in a couple weeks.  But I guarantee you’ll see them make a jump for it by the end of the season.  They just might end up falling on their faces.
