I’m not superstitious, but I am a little stitious. And if Harry Potter taught me anything, it’s how to spot a curse. And the Drake Curse is definitely a curse. At first it just seemed like a coincidence. But coincidences don’t happen every time. Drake is probably the most famous bandwagon fan of this generation and unfortunately always has to pay the piper because of it. However this time is a little different (I hope). Toronto is his hometown team which means that he doesn’t have to bandwagon, ergo no curse right? And if they win surely doesn’t that mean the curse would be lifted? It has to be. But if by some soul swapping deal with the devil the Warriors win and come back from 3-1 nobody can argue about the curse and its power. Let’s all just say a quick prayer before game 6 just to be safe.
Here are just some of the teams/athletes Drake has cursed in the past:
Serena Williams (2015 US Open) – On her way to win her 4th major of what was a historic season Serena loses as a 300-1 favorite in the US Open semifinals. With Drake in attendance.
Andrew Wiggins/Johnny Manziel (2014) – Drake releases a song called “Draft Day” with references to future NBA/NFL stars (at the time) Johnny Football and Andrew Wiggins. Not the best careers from either since then.
Kentucky Wildcats (2014 NCAA March Madness) – Drake visits Wildcats after Final Four win in 2014. Lost in the final to UCONN 60-54.
Conor McGregor (2018 UFC 229) – Drake was in McGregor’s corner during UFC 229 weigh-in. We all saw how that all ended.
Alabama Crimson Tide (2019 NCAA National Championship) – Drake seen rooting for and wearing Bama gear. Alabama then got eviscerated in the national championship to Clemson 44-16.
Manchester City/Sergio Aguero (2019 UEFA Champions League) – Aguero seen taking a picture with Drake then immediately loses in Champions League quarterfinal to Tottenham. Aguero missed a crucial penalty kick during the loss.
Anthony Joshua (2019 World Heavyweight Championship) – Joshua was laughing about the Drake Curse. He went as far to post a picture before his heavyweight title defense letting everyone know he was gonna break it. *Spoiler alert* he did not break the curse.
If these Raptors win (and I think they can) does the curse break? I think it has to. Or will these Raptors be just another victim of the famed curse? I guess we’ll all know soon enough. Where is a magic 8 ball when you need it?
