Today In Sports History (January 11, 1960)

On this day in 1960, LaMar Clark set a boxing record for most consecutive knockouts at 44. LaMar Clark was born in Cedar City, Utah in 1934, and fought in the heavyweight division. Despite his incredible record, not all of his wins were sanctioned, and not all wins were against the highest quality of opponents. Despite this, Clark is still credited in The Guinness Book of World Records for not only most consecutive KOs, but he also holds the record for most knockouts in one night with six. Out of the six opponents Clark knocked out in the same night, five of them were in the first round. In 1961, Clark would face off against a young Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali), where he was knocked out by Ali in the second round. LaMar Clark would go on to retire after his bout against Muhammad Ali. Despite this, Clark’s record still holds up over 50 years later, and will undoubtedly last another 50 years.
