On this day in 1916, Rodman Wanamaker organized a lunch that would shape the golf world like never before. The Taplow Club at the Martinique Hotel in New York City would play host to a meeting, where Wanamaker wanted to discuss the formation of a new golfers association. That golfers association would later be known as the PGA Tour. It’s only the most competitive golf league on the planet. It is arguably the most competitive sports league in the world (due to the lack of players on it). For example, the NFL has a few thousand players in it, whereas the PGA tour has around 150 players in it.
Thank you to Rodman Wanamaker for his contribution to the game we all love. It’s hard to imagine a world without the PGA Tour in it.
