On this day in 1900, the world’s oldest Badminton club formed in England, the Newcastle Badminton Club. For those unaware, Badminton was created in British India in the late 19th century (1800s). Before it was called Badminton, many referred to the popular game as Poona or Poonah. Although it was created in British India, the Chinese have wildly dominated the sport of Badminton on an international level. In the 1992 Olympic Games of Barcelona, Badminton became an Olympic sport. Since its inclusion, Asian born players have won 93 out of 103 medals awarded. Utter dominance.
