Matty Stafford Traded to LA Rams, Jared Goff to Detroit Lions

This trade is big time for the Rams. Jared Goff has improved tremendously since his NFL debut. Gone are the days of Jared Gofful. And he’s a confirmed tough guy after coming back only days from hand surgery to lead the Rams past division rival Seattle in the Wild Card round this postseason. But I don’t think he was ever Sean McVay’s answer. Matthew Stafford has suffered some hard years in Detroit. But his numbers have still been pretty solid during that time. Sure he had MegaTron, but he still went out there and let that thang fly. From 2011-2017 Stafford threw over 4,000 yards every season, throwing for over 5,000 yards in 2011. There were some seasons where the Lions offensive line was giving up almost three sacks a game. Kudos to him for surviving that every week for over a decade. I think Matty Stafford could be just what the Rams need to give them a legitimate shot at a Super Bowl. Stafford is 32, so theres still some gas left in the tank, and it’s gonna be interesting to see how McVay can utilize him. I just feel bad for Goff here. The guy just had surgery on his throwing hand that was supposed to end his season. Then Wolford goes out, and the Rams need a QB. So Goff goes out there and not only keeps them alive, but wins the game for them. He only completed 9/19 passes for 155 yards and a TD, but the guy just had season ending surgery, on his throwing hand. Rams ended up getting the job done and come into Seattle to beat them in the playoffs. Then they lose a game to Packers that nobody thought they would win anyway. Now he’s a Detroit Lion, and gets to play Green Bay twice a year, what fun. This is a great trade for LA I think. I know it’s a business, but you still gotta feel for Goff. He went out there and potentially risked his sustainability and career longevity, just to get traded only a few weeks later. But that’s just the way it is.
