Today In Sports History (January 31, 1920)

On this day in 1920, an NHL record was set for the most goals scored in a single game. Joe Malone of the Quebec Bulldogs or Quebec Hockey Club, scored 7 goals in one game, a still standing NHL record. Those 7 goals were enough to lead Quebec past the Toronto St. Patricks 10-6. Shortly after, Quebec was later moved to Hamilton, Ontario, where they became the Hamilton Tigers. They were the Tigers from 1920-1925. Due to player strikes, the franchise had to dissolve and their contracts were sold to New York. It was the first time in NHL history where there was a strike among players.
