Today In Sports History (February 3, 2008)

On this day in 2008, the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII (42) 17-14. It was arguably the most anticipated Super Bowl since Don Shula and his perfect Dolphins in 1972. The New England Patriots were undefeated up to that point in the season, and not many were expecting the Giants overcome the odds. Despite that, Eli Manning led the Giants to their third Super Bowl Victory in miraculous fashion. The Giants faced the Patriots in the final game of the regular season that year, where New England would come out victorious 38-35. However, it would be the Giants who had the final say. The New England Patriots would go on to face the New York Giants again four years later in Super Bowl XLVI (46) where the Giants would find themselves victorious again. The Miami Dolphins remain the only team in NFL history to finish an entire season undefeated.
