Back-to-back overtime games for LA, and back-to-back wins for LA. This time it was over the OKC Thunder. While the Thunder were leading late in the game, the Lakers rallied to pull ahead with a few key buckets from the King and Dennis Schröder. The Lakers had a chance to win the game in a regulation, but an awkward 3-ball from LeBron wouldn’t fall in the net sending LA to its second straight overtime game. Despite shooting 9/38 from the three-point line, the Lakers managed to overcome their shooting woes by stopping Oklahoma City on the defensive side, winning on the boards, leading in steals and blocks. Once the game got into overtime, LA seemed to to take control, outscoring OKC 9-2. LeBron’s triple-double along with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists from Schröder plus 21 points and 8 rebounds from Montrezl Harrell made up for Anthony Davis being out. Schröder helped provide a spark for LA down the stretch, proving his worth as an offseason addition, and he’ll have to keep doing that in order to help the Lakers win. LeBron is in impeccable shape, but I don’t think constant overtime games and playing 40 minutes is exactly what he needs in year 18. Let’s not forget the fact that he hasn’t taken a game off yet is incredible in itself, especially with the shortened offseason. But the Lakers need to do their part, and lighten his load. That’s the only way they’re going back to the promised land. With the win, LA moves to 19-6, second in the western conference standings.
