Welp, there goes three straight overtime games versus sub .500 teams. I had half of the correct score. Just wrong about the OT part, and the Thunder decided to cover so I apologize if you lost money.
I thought the Lakers would come out swinging, but it was OKC that packed a punch early. Before you knew it the Thunder were up 30-13 and the absence of SGA didn’t seem to matter. The Thunder were just outplaying the Lakers much of the first half, and the LA defense was stagnant, allowing nearly six OKC players in double digits. But a 20-point deficit surely wouldn’t stop the King and company. Thanks to some magic on the offensive end by Harrell and Kuzma, the Lakers were able to rally all game to make it up. It was another poor night’s work shooting from beyond the arc for LA, but they made the 3s when they needed them. The Lakers didn’t have a lead until about 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter when Kuzma got a steal that turned into a Lakers bucket. From there it looked like the Lakers might handle them before regulation ended, but the Thunder weren’t done just yet managing to take a 3-point lead. King James hit a clutch 3-ball as time was expiring in regulation to tie it up, sending the Lakers in their third straight overtime game since the 1991-92 season. The Lakers would once again find themselves victorious in overtime, however it was not as lopsided as it was Monday night. The Lakers were up one with a few seconds left on the clock. It was Thunder ball, and a single bucket would give them the victory. So what does the top ranked defensive team in the league do? Their fearless leader steals the inbound, forces OKC to reset, and eventually settle for a half court prayer. Terrible pass or incredible defensive play? Yes. Either way you slice it the Lakers have won three straight, all in overtime. Those announcers sounded bored just thinking about another LA overtime game, which is beyond me. They have the best gig ever, be excited it’s gonna go on for an extra five minute period. Los Angeles has Memphis up next, and they’ll look to continue their win streak at home, while the Thunder will try to bounce back against the Denver Nuggets. Anybody wanna make bets on a 4th straight OT game?
