Mavericks Edge Past Hawks 118-117

The Mavericks have looked a little more sluggish this season than I care to admit. Could it just be the amount of games in a short time because of scheduling because the pandemic? Possibly. It is cause of concern? Not yet. The Mavericks hosted Atlanta earlier, where they would narrowly win down the stretch. Doncic had 28 points on 9/18 from the field with 10 rebounds and 10 assists, while Tim Hardaway Jr. had 16 points on 60% shooting. Jalen Brunson added another 21 points on 9/18 shooting as well. That good shooting stretch helped Dallas come from behind in the 4th quarter, taking their first lead since 39-38. A few big three pointers didn’t hurt the Mavericks either, averaging 40% on the night. Hawks star Trae Young had 25 and 15 assists, but he didn’t have a great shooting night, going 8/22 from the floor. He did have a few shots where he casually pulled up from the logo, reminding all of us he can do that pretty much whenever he wants. Crazy to think about. There was a controversial no-call by the refs on the last possession, well I bet if you ask Trae Young it was controversial. Was it a good call? I’ll just say nobody is gonna be banging down the league front office doors complaining about it. But I did love his enthusiasm about it. That’s the fire the network ratings need to see. Dallas is gonna look to continue their good fortunes this Friday down in the bayou when they take on the Pelicans. Hopefully, this can be the kickstart they needed, because they aren’t off to the start I think many anticipated.
