The Suns are looking like a top contender this year, but is it just because of the chaotic season that’s unfolding? Could they really be a threat in the West, or will they implode like a supernova into the abyss? Only time will tell. Until then, we can only imagine that Devin will close the book on any foes they face. Meanwhile, in cream town, some say it’s Antetokounmpo against the world. But the five other guys that scored in double digits would disagree. Kris Middleton also added 11 assists and five rebounds to go along with his 18 points. The Greek Freak went off, as he tends to do, for 47 points (65% shooting), 11 rebounds and five assists. But it would all be for not, because the Suns were shining bright last night. Devin Booker had 30 points and six rebounds while CP3 had 28 along with 7 assists. It was a solid day at the office for Frank Kaminsky, Mikal Bridges and Deandre Ayton all scoring in double digits. New addition Jae Crodwer added 14 boards to help the Suns eclipse the second ranked team in the Eastern conference. Milwaukee was up 12 at the half, but a good scoring third quarter helped cut down the deficit to three going into the final period. The Greek Freak had an opportunity to win the game in the final seconds, but would miss a 20-foot jumper for the win. But he had 47, so he did put them in a position to have a chance to win the game. The Suns may have been shining, but it seemed like those deer froze in the headlights.
The real question is are the Suns actual contenders? Contenders I don’t know. But they are definitely good. It’s not some overnight transformation. Devin Booker and co. have been steadily coming into their own as a team, and this past they made some key offseason acquisitions. It’s been years in the making, but the Suns are starting to look like the team everyone said they could be. We still have the other half of the season and the playoffs to know for sure, but I don’t think it would be a surprise to see them in the conference semi-finals. They just missed out on the 8th seed last season in the bubble, and the way things are looking now they probably won’t have to play a Lakers or Clippers squad in the first round. We’ll see as the season progresses, but right now the Suns are 15-9 and sitting at #4 in the Western conference.
