Another stellar matchup between two young franchises. Luka Doncic absolutely exploded tonight, going for 46 points on 17-30 shooting (59%) and 5-8 (62%) from beyond the arc. He shot 62% from the 3-point line! Doncic also had 12 assists and 8 rebounds. It was the Slovenian’s night, and nobody was going to deny him. It didn’t help the Pelicans that Kristaps Porzingis went off 36 points of his own (61% shooting) along with 7 rebounds. Dallas shot 55% from the 3-point line as a team, and it’s hard to beat a team when they’re shooting that well from deep. Dorian Finney-Smith and Jalen Brunson both had a great night from beyond the arc to aid Dallas in their quest for dominance. Both Zion and Brandon Ingram would have 30-point nights with Zion finishing for 36 on 93% shooting! Lonzo Ball added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and Eric Bledsoe had 16 points to go along for New Orleans. But the night would belong to Doncic, who just couldn’t miss from deep. Luka was looking a lot like how he used to play in the Euroleague when he was younger. If you’re unfamiliar with his Euroleague highlights, then you’re missing out big time. Doncic has been crushing spirits, breakin’ ankles and hitting game-winners since he was a 15-year-old. Luka had 46 points tonight, a new career-high. He tied his previous career-high of 42 earlier this year in a loss to the Warriors. I realistically wouldn’t be surprised if Luka broke his career-high of 46 points again later this season. In fact, I’d be surprised if he doesn’t. The Mavericks are starting to come into form, and they’re looking more dangerous by the day. Dallas has Portland up next, but I think the Trail Blazers are the ones that should be worried. Cool Hand Luka aka “Don Cheech” aka the Slovenian Slayer, is on the move.
