Another blazing night for the Luka “Don Cheech” Doncic. 14-20 for 44 points (70% shooting!), 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Luka also shot 63% from beyond the arc. The Slovenian Slayer picked right back up where he left off against New Orleans. The only difference was he needed about eight less shots than he did on Friday against the Pelicans when he dropped a career-high 46. Luka was two shy of that tonight, and he did have a chance to make it 47, but he was unable to hit a three-pointer as time was expiring in regulation. It’s a hard loss for Dallas fans, especially after a stellar performance like the one Doncic had tonight. Porzingis added 18 points (55% shooting) and 8 rebounds. Jalen Brunson, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Dorian Finney-Smith all scored in double digits, rounding out the Mavericks offense.
But in the biggest moments, the light was shining brightest on one Damian Lillard. Time is relative, but it was definitely Dame Time in Dallas. Lillard had 34 points and 11 assists. It was a community effort for the Trail Blazers tonight, as they had six guy in total with double-digits (four of them with 15+). Portland was missing two of their biggest pieces in Nurkic and McCollum, but it didn’t seem to affect them too much. Dame hit a clutch three-pointer from the top of the key with about 30 seconds left in the fourth to give Portland the lead 119-116. It was one of the most effortless plays of his entire career. After LeBron James, Damian Lillard has got to be up there as one of the top 2-3 most clutch players in the league right now. But don’t take my word for it. I bet even Paul George would say it was a good shot. Remember when Dame ended Paul George & Russell Westbrook’s career in OKC?
