It’s almost like a cosmic smack in the face. I predict an LA win by 10, they win by 8. It’s as if the universe never wants me to be exactly right. Either way, the Lake Show got the job done, though I’m sure they would’ve wanted to wrap the game up earlier than they did. King James led the way for the Lake Show with 30 points (65% shooting), 13 rebounds and 7 assists. the rest of LA’s offense was rounded out by Dennis Schröder with 24 points (60% shooting), Marc Gasol with 11 points (75% from the three) and Montrezl Harrell with 17 points (72% shooting). It was a good night of shooting for the Lakers, but they did have some turnover trouble early in the game. Despite those turnovers, they did a good job of not letting Minnesota capitalize on them. At one point in the first half, LA already 9 turnovers, but Minnesota had scored only 7 points off of those turnovers. Considering it could have been upwards of 20+ points, that is not good if you’re Minnesota. When a team like the Lakers is giving you opportunities like that, you need to capitalize on them.
The NBA is more competitive than other leagues, and this season is unfolding in an extremely chaotic way. There are currently only four teams in the eastern conference with a record over .500 (76ers, Bucks, Nets, Celtics). The Celtics moved past .500 with an impressive win over the Nuggets last night. Every team in the western conference in over .500 but barely. I still think the Lakers are the favorite, despite their slow production recently. This is just a weird season. But in the bright note, that should mean for an extremely chaotic playoffs. And that’s always a plus.
