On this day in 1993, the Sacramento Gold Miners were admitted as the 9th team in the Canadian football League (CFL), the first team in the United States. The Gold Miners made history in numerous ways. They were the first American team in the CFL, the first team to host a CFL game in America, the first American team to lose a game in the CFL and the first team to win a game in the CFL. The Gold Miners first victory was against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Sacramento won 37-26. Their time in Sacramento would be short-lived, as the team was relocated to San Antonio before the start of the 1995 season. They were renamed the San Antonio Texans. They played one season in San Antonio, before the team folded.
