Today In Sports History (February 24, 1987)

On this day in 1987, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar scored his 36,000th point in the NBA, a feat only accomplished by two players* in league history. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 1969 (nice). He was the 1st overall pick in the draft. Abdul-Jabbar signed with the LA Lakers in 1975, where we finish his Hall of Fame career. Currently, Abdul-Jabbar is first all-time in NBA points scored with 38,387. Karl Malone is second all-time with 36,928, followed by LeBron James with 35,067. Despite being over 3,000 points behind Abdul-Jabbar, King James is the only player with a realistic chance of catching him. If James continues his same level of production for the next few years, he will undoubtedly pass Kareem for most all-time points. Until that day comes, just keep enjoying that beautiful skyhook.

*LeBron will be the third player to reach 36,000 career points when he inevitably does so.
