On this day in 1940, the first televised college basketball game took place in Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY. The Fordham Rams took on the University of Pittsburgh Panthers in a lopsided affair. The Panthers thwarted the Rams 57-37, but it was hardly news to anyone. The game itself, was hardly news, despite it being the first televised college basketball game. It hardly made any headlines, which is astounding when you think about how popular college basketball is today.
