It’s the overall No. 1 & 2 seed going at it for the championship. Spain VS India. The overall No. 2 seed PV Sindhu took on Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt in the semi-finals. Blichfeldt would fend off Sindhu for three straight game points down 20-17. Unfortunately for Blichfeldt, Sindhu would score the next two taking the first game 22-20. I wouldn’t say the match was over after this, but it definitely stopped Blichfeldt’s momentum. Sindhu would go on to take the second game 21-10, charging her way into the championship match. All eyes will be on the Indian phenom.

On the other end of the bracket, Spaniard Carolina Marin almost blew another 1-0 lead (like the championship match back at the World Tour Finals in January) in a best-of-three series to the Pride of Thailand, Pornpawee Chochuwong. Marin was in control in the first game, but she would lose her grip in the second game, giving up multiple match-points. The Pride of Thailand would go on to win the second game 22-20, in exciting fashion.
The third game would stay competitive throughout, but Marin kept the edge as the finish line was closing in. The Pride of Thailand would nearly have another crazy comeback, but it would be for not. The top overall seed in the tournament advances to the championship, like many thought she would.
PV Sindhu has been on a tear this Swiss Open, and the women’s singles championship is shaping up to be an exciting one. Punch your tickets and grab some popcorn. It’s India VS Spain, Sindhu VS Marin, Hero VS Villain….Only one can grab the gold.
