On this day in 1991, Eddie Sutton became the first coach in NCAA history to lead four different schools to the NCAA tournament (March Madness). Coach Sutton led three teams to the Final Four in Arkansas (1978) and Oklahoma State (1995 & 2004). The four teams he led to the NCAA tournament were: Creighton, Arkansas, Kentucky and Oklahoma State. Sutton was voted AP Coach of the Year in 1978 at Arkansas and 1986 at Kentucky. Sutton was denied entry to the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame six times, before finally being selected in 2020. Sutton claimed the reason he was continuously denied in the Hall of Fame was because of a controversy that ended his time with Kentucky (one of college basketball’s blue-blood programs). Eddie Sutton passed away on May 23, 2020, but his legacy will continue to go on.
