On this day in 1892, the first public game of basketball was played in Springfield, Massachusetts. It was played at the Armory Hill YMCA, and the game gathered a crowd of around 200 people. The game pitted students against teachers, where the students came out victorious in a 5-1 effort. Fast-forward over a hundred years, and it is nearly impossible to imagine the sports world without basketball, specifically the NBA. Thank you James Naismith
