I’ve always been a big Johnny Football fan, ever since his days at Texas A&M. He was awesome. Then he got to the league. Sure he didn’t make great choices (or good ones), but I’m a firm believer that the media helped kill his career. They probably made it much much worse than it was in actuality. It also didn’t help that the dumpster fire Browns drafted him. Let’s just say his NFL career was never set up for success.
Don’t get me wrong, he helped out too. I don’t think he truly cared about anything, and he probably felt like he had security with his family’s wealth. But I believe in second chances. Apparently, Manziel came out and said he has a multi-year plan in order to become a professional golfer. I remember hearing a story back in the day during Manziel’s Heisman season. It was about him basically growing up on a golf course, and they said he was a near scratch golfer. Now I don’t know how true that was, but I wouldn’t doubt it. At the very least, he was probably a good golfer, which is a much better starting point than some. If Manziel is actually serious about this, I see no reason we couldn’t see him on a lower level golf tour in the coming years. The PGA Tour seems like a pipe dream, only because of how competitive it is. But I could definitely see Johnny Football take his talent to the golf course. It’s also a plus that you can play golf intoxicated or hungover much easier than something like football.

Half of chasing a dream like this is financial, whether you like it or not, and that’s another bonus for Manziel. Without having to worry about the financial side of things, he can probably focus more on actually getting better at the game. I’m not saying it’ll be a lot easier, but not having to worry about finances definitely helps.
I’m not saying Johnny Manziel is gonna win the Masters anytime soon (that would be awesome I don’t care what you say/think), but I think he has a much more realistic chance of reaching professional status than most people will give him. If that story was true, then he’s already a great golfer. Now he just needs to become an elite golfer. And if you have the time and resources (money, coaching) then it’s definitely an attainable goal.
Love him or hate him, but going to see Johnny Football in the final group on a Sunday would be electric.
Does this mean he needs a new nickname?
