On this day in 1962, Wilt Chamberlain accomplished something in the NBA that will probably never happen again. Chamberlain became the first player in league history to score 4,000 points in a single season. Wilt averaged 50.4 PPG during the 1961-62 season, which was enough for 4,029 points in total. The previous record was just over 2,000, which was absolutely smashed by Chamberlain. No other player in NBA history has come close to Chamberlain’s record, except for Wilt Chamberlain himself. In the four seasons from 1959-1963, Chamberlain had the four highest scoring seasons of all-time in the NBA. Michael Jordan had the fifth highest scoring season of all-time during the 1986-87 season with 37.09 PPG or 3,041 points.
Wilt Chamberlain was just on a different level, both height and skill wise.
