On this day in sports history, NFL coach Bill Belichick resigned as head coach of the New York Jets. Belichick spent one day as the New York Jets head coach, later recalling his resignation as one of the greater moments of his career. While many associate Bill Belichick with the New England Patriots, he spent time with a handful of teams before landing the head coaching gig in New England. Belichick also coached for the Baltimore Colts (Before move to Indy), Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, New York Giants, Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets. During the press conference where the Jets were going to introduce their newly hired head coach, Belichick scribbled on a napkin “I resign as HC of the NYJ,” before taking the podium. Classic Jets. Belichick soon signed with the New England Patriots after his tenure with the Jets ended, where he is still the head coach.
