Today In Sports History (January 6, 1681)

On this day in 1681, the first ever recorded boxing match took place. The 2nd Duke of Albemarle, Christopher Monck pitted his butcher and his butler against one-another with the butcher ultimately winning. Monck would later become the Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica. More official rules would not be introduced to the sport of boxing until 1743.
