WHAT A FIGHT. Bam Bam didn’t come to mess around. He came to get gritty in Derrick’s titty. And oh how gritty it got. Riding a 4 fight KO streak, Tai Lung sorry Tai Tuivasa came into this with his toughest test to date in the Black Beast, Derrick Lewis (most KOs in UFC history). The Black Beast was also on his home turf. And for the first few minutes he was in control. He landed a few early takedowns and was dishing out big damage to Tai, who was eating it buffet-style. But you can’t lie, Lewis about put him in survival mode in his early barrage. They landed a similar amount of strikes in total with Tai being more the more efficient striker down the line. And he landed some quality shots midway into the second round before delivering an elbow better than The Rock on Monday Night Raw.

Respect to Lewis though. He was winning that fight up to that point. But that’s fighting for ya; especially when you’re dealing with Heavyweights. These guys have some explosive hands, and the tables can turn quicker than Tai Lung on his way back to the get Dragon Scroll. I know Australia is bummed about The Reaper going down to Adesanya, but they should too be thankful for the star Tai Tuivasa is becoming.

After this the Heavyweight division is gonna be a little more interesting. Bam Bam has got to move up in the rankings a good bit right? Lewis is ranked 3rd meanwhile Tuivasa was sitting at 11th. I’d say at least like 4th-6th. Don’t forget, he’s now on a five fight KO run. And with Ngannou being sidelined due to his knee surgery/contact dispute, we may see another interim title fight this year. Probably closer to the end of the year if we get one. If Bam Bam is able to fight again later this summer and win then, he could definitely find himself in a position to win some more gold for Australia. He’s becoming a bigger star each time people see him. With everything else going on with Ciryl Gane, Stipe Miocic and even the Jon Jones situation, the addition of Tai Tuivasa to the party only makes things better. Then there’s the Curtis Blaydes-Chris Daukaus fight later next month and that’ll have even more implications. I know Ngannou is still the man to beat right now, and he’s definitely the undisputed champion. But right now the Heavyweight division is in good hands.

Tai Tuivasa has really made his mark now. From his explosive finishes to the trademark shoey after a W. I don’t know who his next opponent is going to be, but I know it’s going to be worth watching.
