For years, the Waste Management Phoenix Open has been the most fun golf event there is. The 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale is a world all in its own, and the atmosphere is unlike anything ever seen in golf. Since 2017, five out of the seven tournaments have ended in a playoff. The other two were decided by a total margin of only three strokes. In that time, guys like Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Webb Simpson and Gary Woodland won it. Hideki Matsuyama even won it back-to-back. Now Scottie Scheffler gets his first win on the PGA Tour here. Sounds awesome right? It would. But half the time, nobody ever really watches it, at least the final round that is. Why may you ask? Maybe having the tournament take place the same time as Super Bowl week is not a good a thing. The final round almost always falls on the day of the actual Super Bowl. Why? Why? WHY?

It makes no sense. If this is supposed to be the most fun event in golf, why in the world would they have it going on the same time as the biggest sporting event on the planet?!?!?! Half the time I forget to watch it, solely because I’m thinking about the Super Bowl and everything else that comes with it. And then to top it all off, the Phoenix Open is usually pretty competitive. With five playoff finished in seven years, it’s nearly always coming down to the wire. Why can’t it be the last weekend of February? Or the third weekend? Anything but Super Bowl week. It seems like that’s done on purpose, because who is that much of a dingleberry to schedule that? Are they stupid on purpose is my question to all this.
