Bobby “King” Green VS Islam Makhachev

Bobby Green is kind of in a win-win situation here. A couple weeks removed from a masterclass performance at UFC 271, Green answered the call on 10 days notice when no doubt he was not first in line. Guaranteed. But he’s got the chance he’s been looking for. No he doesn’t get a full camp to prepare, and yeah he’s probably still sore. But there’s also a few blessings in that.

With it being on such short notice, he doesn’t have all that time to think about the task at hand. He can just go out there and jump right into the fire without a second thought. He’s also no supposed to win the fight. Makhachev is a heavy favorite. So the pressure is off Green here. If he loses, then he lost a fight nobody thought he would win, as well as it being on super short notice. And it was against one of the top Lightweight contenders on the planet. But if he pulls out an upset, then he gets his best win of his career over a guy who was about to fight for the Lightweight championship. A win would immediately throw him into the already packed Lightweight championship conversation, as well as turning the entire division upside down in the best way possible. Also let’s not forget here, it’s not just Bobby Green that only had 10 days notice. Islam Makhachev only had 10 days to prepare for Bobby Green too.

Yeah Makhachev is an imperial eagle with the ability to maul you like a bear. But we have seen him get caught before, even if it only happened once. And King Green has some of those same ingredients necessary to pull out the upset. He’s a slick striker, and he’s got the advantage over Makhachev in the stand-up. If he’s able to turn this into a brawl, there is definitely a chance that he might catch Islam. You never know. On the other end, Green might have his hands full with Makhachev’s smothering presence on the ground. But we love to play devil’s advocate here, and we love the odds against King Green.

Nobody is giving him much of a chance here, and he’s definitely out to prove something. Also why wouldn’t you wanna throw a little green on a Bobby Green KO/TKO finish. With these odds, it’s hard to not to take a gamble here, even if it’s a small one.

The logical pick here would most likely be Islam by submission, probably in Round 2-3. But I think Green is gonna try and bring the chaos in this one.
