Martial Arts Monday Mania | Islam Makhachev Stepping in Against Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 272?!?

No, nothing is official yet. But the co-main event of UFC 272 is now in need of someone to replace Rafael Fiziev after he had to pull out of his fight against Rafael dos Anjos due to contracting covid-19. The Battle of the Rafaels may be off, but the action is still gonna be hot and heavy. Don’t you worry.

Just a couple days off his first-round TKO victory, Islam Makhachev wants to step in for the UFC 272 co-main event against dos Anjos. This would be AWESOME. It’s already a stacked card. Makhachev wants to finish what never got started back at UFC 267. Rafael dos Anjos pulled out of their fight back in October due to a knee injury. Let’s just say Islam didn’t take to that well. So there’s definitely some unfinished business here. And some bad blood. It would be awesome to get to see the fight we never got to see. And Makhachev didn’t exactly take much damage a few nights ago, so he’ll be good to go. The real question is what weight it would be contested at.

There have been a few other names that popped up like Renato Moicano, Ilia Topuria or even Paul Felder. While that would be cool, Islam has got to be the ideal choice right? And not even just for his matchup against dos Anjos. There is some serious Russian talent on the card with the likes of Khabib’s protege Tagir Ulanbekov and his cousin Umar Nurmagomedov. Add in one of the top Lightweight contenders and we got something incredible. The addition of Islam Makhachev would be like a Russian takeover. Oh wait.
