The UFC Lightweight Division is About to Get a Lot More Interesting

LET’S GO. As if the Lightweight division wasn’t hot enough already. Now we get El Cucuy against Iron Mike to set up what’s already gonna be a crazy Lightweight championship. UFC 274 is going to be crazy. Back at the UFC 262 press conference, Tony Ferguson was going at with Lightweight contenders Beneil Dariush and Michael Chandler in typical El Cucuy fashion. He also coined ”Dana White privilege” which might be one of the funniest one-liners in UFC history. And now he gets his shot at Chandler. Tony Ferguson has been on a three-fight skid since his crazy 12-fight win streak, but they were all to top contenders including the current champ Charles Oliveira as well as top contender Justin Gaethje. And then there’s Michael Chandler. After a crazy impressive UFC debut, he’s dropped his last two. But it’s a similar situation to Ferguson’s. Those losses were to the champ Oliveira and top contender Justin Gaethje. But a win for either Ferguson or Chandler would be huge. Then you add Islam Makhachev to the equation and it really starts to get wild.

How about the main event though? Gaethje finally gets his shot against Oliveira, and rightfully so. It’s gonna be a banger all around, but the matchup of El Cucuy and Iron Mike only makes it better in my opinion.

I think the real madness will begin after UFC 274. It’s hard not to speculate, but we won’t really get any definitive answers until the fights happen. I just want to see how Islam comes into play with all of this. That guy definitely deserves a shot at gold too.

I know it won’t make a lot of people happy, but there is a certain Irishmen on the mend as well. We have to imagine Conor McGregor has some part to play in all of this, whether fans like it or not. I’m not saying he deserves a title shot, because he doesn’t; yet. Once he shows us he is still hungry and puts a couple good wins together his name will most definitely pop into the conversation.

And if it happens before that, well what can you do about that Dana White privilege?
