On this day in 1989, the MLB launched an investigation on Pete Rose for allegedly gambling on games during his time with the team. At the time of the investigation, Rose was no longer playing in the league, but he was the manager for the Cincinnati Reds. He was a 17-time MLB All-Star, the all-time MLB leader in hits (4,526), games played (3,562) and at-bats (14,053) with three World Series pennants to his name. Pete Rose was eventually banished from professional baseball. His continued approaches to overturn that decision over the years have all been denied, and it seems his banishment is for eternity. Rose is also ineligible from joining the Baseball Hall of Fame, which given his professional accolades is a shame. Many in the public eye have viewed his punishment as too egregious for his actions committed.
