Today In sports History (March 23, 1994)

On this day in 1994, Wayne Gretzky became the NHL’s all-time leader in goals scored. Gretzky’s goal came at 14:47 of the second period, where he would surpass Gordie Howe on the all-time list. The LA Kings may have lost to the Vancouver Canucks that night, but the night belonged to the Great One. Gretzky ended his career with 894 goals – a record still unbroken to this day. Alex Ovechkin is currently second on the all-time goals list with 853. He is still an active player in the league, however it is unlikely that we’ll ever seen Gretzky’s record broken. He is the widely regarded as the best hockey player to ever play as well as one of the greatest athletes this planet has ever seen.
