Super Bowl 52

Man this sucks.  I did not choose to grow up in this era.  As a Dolphins fan my life has been watching the Patriots dynasty and Nick Saban leave Miami to be the best football coach in college history.  In my defense though, the Patriots don’t lose.  The refs wouldn’t let that happen.  But we don’t need to dive in about that.  I don’t wanna get any more deflated about this Super Bowl.  But that’s neither here nor there.  The Patriots are playing the Iggles for chances of Philly’s first Super Bowl.  They’ve never won the big one but they have gotten silver before.  Most recently Andy Reid was playing hide and seek with his time-outs.  But this is a new Eagles team.  At least I really really hope so.  Philly may be the underdogs once again (big mistake Vegas) but these Iggles have enough dog masks and Philly cheesesteaks to drive New England back over the Delaware.

New England is the obvious favorite.  With the zebras on their side it’s kind of hard to lose.  They’ve also been to enough of these games for the equivalent of half of a regular season.  In the process of this Super Bowl coming closer there have been reports of Philadelphia players battling the flu since their arrival in Minnesota.  Huh? Isn’t that weird?  Probably just another coincidence.  Gronkowski will be cleared to play which changes things a bit for the Philly defense.  But knowing Gronk he’ll have another concussion before the game even starts.  This also leads me to believe that if he did get a concussion would it just work in reverse?  Would he would wake up to be an expert in astrophysics on the verge of a Nobel Prize?  Maybe.  Who’s to say?  Gronk’s life is just one long concussion.  But that doubles as his super power.  He can’t feel pain.  With that being said the Eagles are going to have to a handful matching him up all night.  But this New England offensive line will be the real test.  Philly’s best chances of winning are getting to Brady and pressuring the pocket.  Well that and they need to swap out the officiating crews.  Right now any referees for the Patriots look like the ones from The Longest Yard.  New England has been here a lot.  They’re the favorite and as much as I hate to say it they deserve to be the favorite.  But the last three teams the were favored before the Super Bowl all lost (Atlanta, Carolina & Seattle) so I’m okay with New England being the favorite.

Philly hasn’t been this excited since Rocky went to Russia to fight Ivan Drago on Christmas Day.  I mean it could really be their year.  I don’t doubt the movie Invincible with Mark Walhberg had everything to do with it.  That movie sparked the match which will eventually burn the whole place down.  Vince Papale against all odds becomes the face for all those with a dream and some extra time after school (he was a teacher.)  The Eagles are a great underdog.  Their star qb goes down for the season when out of nowhere Napolean Dynamite’s brother Nick Foles swoops in to save the city of brotherly love in their most desperate hour.  Everyone got on board when the Jay Train came through and Philly hasn’t slowed down since.  They have a phenomenal run game to compliment Nick Foles’ ability to sling the rock.  The Philly defense was a question mark at the beginning of the season but such questions have been answered.  The defense is legit.  They can do exactly what you need to do in order to beat NE.  Jacksonville was the same.  The only difference is they stopped playing after the fourth started.  I may not have been on board at the beginning of the season but I’m rolling with the Eagles.  The Jay Train is heading out soon.  I’d get on board while you can.

I know it seems obvious that I would choose the team going against New England but I have my logic.  I chose Atlanta last season and Seattle before that.  Both looked like they had it under control until the final minutes.  Then things sort of unraveled faster than Rick Pitino.  But this year is different.  What makes you say that you ask?  Well I believe that the great Lord above will make things right.  And by making things right Philly will capture their first ever Super Bowl victory.  No more silver for these birds.  They’re going to the top of the podium.

Philadelphia Eagles -31

New England Patriots -28
