Viktor Axelsen Breezes to the Round of 16 at YONEX Swiss Open

The Danish Delight picked right back up in Basel, and he’s moving on to the second round of the YONEX Swiss Open. Viktor Axelsen was matched up against the Canadian hustler Jason Anthony Ho-Shue in the first round. The first game was competitive, with Axelsen edging past Ho-Sue for the 21-17 victory. In the second game however, the Danish Delight would start cooking, breezing past the Canadian 21-7 to take the match 2-0.

This guy may be from Denmark, but he feels like a super-human technologically advanced Russian specimen. He just gets better with each game. Maybe he’s finally in a good rhythm at that point, or he just feels extremely comfortable; either way his methods are effective.

After this win, Axelsen will set up against the Thai Fighter, Khosit Phetpradab in the Round of 16. They will face-off in the seventh match tomorrow on court 1. Phetpradab will have his hands full, as the Danish Delight looks to keep rolling after his hot start today. The Thai Fighter is just outside the top 30 in the world rankings, and he’s currently sitting at 169 (nice) career wins. In the first round, Khosit Phetpradab would drop the first game to Nhat Nguyen 21-12. The Thai Fighter would rally though, grabbing the second game 21-17, tying the match at 1-1. Phetpradab would dominate the third game 21-8, taking the match 2-1 over Nguyen. Kudos to the Thai Fighter for coming back from a 1-0 lead in a best-of-three.

Unfortunately, I don’t think he’ll have that luxury if he wants to move past Axelsen. It should be an exciting match. I don’t know if you saw The Danish Delight’s post-match interview, but that guy is a force. His demeanor is that of a big cat that just got done with dinner.

This guy is gonna end up plowing through everybody, and his focus isn’t even on the Swiss Open. It’s on a tournament two weeks away; insane. Stay weary people. The Danish Delight is on the prowl.
